We were delighted to join the businesses who have contributed to Life Kitchen at the Lodge – the world’s first cookery school for people living with cancer – which was opened by Nigella Lawson last week.

Life Kitchen is the vision of Washington-born Ryan Riley. 18 months ago he began providing free cookery classes across the UK for people living with cancer. Life Kitchen at the Lodge sees a permanent home for his venture.

The Grade II listed building on the edge of Mowbray Park has been donated by Sunderland City Council. Other businesses involved in the renovation work to turn it into the cooker school include Turner & Townsend, Ryder Architects, Sir Robert McAlpine, Desco, T Manners and Netherton Foundry.
