Selected Loos of London by Paula Simoe, part of Hand-drawn London, an exhibition at the Museum of London, 21st April — 11th September 2011
Being involved in signs and wayfinding I think I’ve become obsessed with toilets in public spaces ! How many are there ? Where they are located ? How do you find them ? Can wheelchair users access them ? What kind of pictograms or terminology might be used to define them ?
In 2011 the Museum of London and Londondist.com invited people to submit ideas for hand drawn maps depicting aspects of London life. Paula Simoe’s entry stands out for me, probably because it combines finding the loo with another obsession of mine — maps. It’s also a quirky, tongue in cheek wayfinding guide !
